Dear Southmoor Families:
It is our priority to keep you informed about events that impact our school and students. I have some news to share with you all about our Highly Gifted and Talented (HGT) educational programming at Southmoor.
Having reviewed our projected numbers from the Enrollment Department, we found that we do not have the number of students to continue to offer self-contained HGT classes at Southmoor at this time. As we stay true to our vision, and in consultation with the Gifted and Talented office, we are shifting our model at Southmoor for our Highly Gifted and Talented students to provide inclusive and diverse educational experience for all students.
Starting in fall of 2021, we will be providing HGT through a cluster group model for all grade levels. This will provide diversity and enrichment for all of our students and allow all of our students to benefit from this model.
As we know, our HGT students have specialized needs. As we implement this programming model , we will be working with the Gifted and Talented office to provide professional learning for our staff that will support the research based schoolwide cluster grouping model as a support all of our students, especially the HGT students
We wanted to make sure we provide this information and the best possible supports prior to the choice window being closed. Please let us know how we may be able to support you in making the best decision for your children. As always, feel free to contact us with any questions.
Sincerely,
Pam Kirk
